Distrobox-export for terminal emulators

Hey all, just wanted to confirm something since I can't find anything related online. I tried exporting (with the --app flag) from an arch container both ghostty and xfce4-terminal.

What I get then on the system is the application that when launched is the terminal emulator and the shell is inside the container. Is this the only way this works for these kinds of applications? Any way to get a shell on the host system?
