Here's one that works the way we want: http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3481275&perpage=40&pagenumber=384#post412350189

I've seen ones that don't, can't find one right this second. Find one, and see if we can fix it up in Awful to work like the first one.

Can't find any of these. Maybe I dreamt it. Happy to come back to this if someone finds a problem video.

I think this is the same issue:

In the youtube app, if your orientation is locked, you can still press the expand button to turn the video full screen landscape. In Awful, the expand button for embedded youtube videos only zooms in (useless). I don't know if it's possible, but it's be KILLER for awfuls embedded Youtubes to behave the same as the app when the expand button is tapped.

It's a different embed on the tablets, where fullscreen isn't even enabled (which is usually why I'd want to open the video in the app instead). Speaking of, is the fullscreen button disabled on purpose? The full-screen setting is default enabled according tohttps://developers.google.com/youtube/player_parameters(fs=1), but I have no idea if the embed is controlled by the app, the forums, youtube, or some other code.
