If you're playing a video that is fairly light coloured throughout, you may wish to darken the timer text; if you're playing a video which is mainly dark, you may wish to lighten the timer text. Also, depending on the the person's eyesight, different background and text colours could help them to read the onscreen text. For example, someone who is dyslexic would find pink text on a black background easier than black text on a white background.
