Local Business and Labor Market

The main purpose of this section is to provide local communities, including the general public, business entrepreneurs, local officials, and regional developers with the current conditions of local business and labor markets, which includes jobs in demand and supply, average wage rates, industry sales, new jobs, changes in jobs, and also job projections throughout 2010. SWOSU/CEBD was brought into the partnership using the economic modeling tools through the Workforce Investment Board.

The data provided can be used for a variety of purposes. For example, the data can be used as an aide in decisions concerning job market opportunities, identifying relative strength and weaknesses of an area’s business segment, etc. These in turn will facilitate job seekers, regional developers and community leaders to capitalize on areas of opportunity.

The information which is updated bi-annually with fresh data that is only six months old focuses on three main sections: The Economic Forecaster, Career Pathways, and Economic Impact. The Economic Forecaster and Career Pathways projections up to the year 2010, which are available in our February 2006 updates, are comprised of the six regions in Oklahoma, counties found in the Southwestern Oklahoma Impact Coalition (SOIC) and the State of Oklahoma. As for the Economic Impact section, it is comprised of the regions of Southwest Oklahoma, Oklahoma City Metro Area, the SOIC region and the State of Oklahoma. The six regions of Oklahoma are cited as Northwest Oklahoma, Northeast Oklahoma, Southwest Oklahoma, Southeast Oklahoma, Oklahoma City MSA, and Tulsa MSA.

For the following updates for the month of August 2006 and hereafter, The Economic Forecaster, Career Pathways and Economic Impact sections encompass all six regions of Oklahoma, the counties included in the Southwestern Oklahoma Impact Coalition (SOIC) and also the State of Oklahoma as a whole.

Detailed information concerning regional and county divisions is listed below. The source for the information provided in this section comes from the Economic Modeling Specialists Inc. All data is presented in Excel file format.
