I just helped a user who did not have enough storage to download the entire 447-way HAL and advised them they had to recompile with the Kent tree.
This may have sent them off on a painful path.
Compiling in access in the binary release would be good. However, creating a build dependency on a browser tree is not fun.
HAL already uses a modified version of UDC. Adding renamed copies of the dependent functions would support remote access without creating a difficult dependency.
