Thanks for raising this, @mprove, a couple thoughts:
Our previous site had no search, and to our knowledge it's never been raised as a request since the site debuted in 2014
Most (all?) Jekyll/static html sites don’t have search functions. Related, I’m not up on all the latest in ux research but I think site search is very hard to do well, and for small sites like ours the vast majority of people are coming from Google anyway
So, all to say, we're not 100% opposed, but it's a sizeable element to implement, with major UX elements to consider, and something that so far we haven't seen concrete requests for
It is possible to incorporate google site search.
No user cares for the technical details of the web server and forms her expectations on any backend assumptions.
But if noone was searching for search… then so be it.
Do you have plans to offer site search for https://iiif.io/ ?
Would be nice and expected by web visitors.
