Conduct outreach and support and prepare Training Materials (as well as support evolving Community Engagement activities).

General (Dataverse)

GREI related tasks:

• Flowchart committee leads (Sonia) completed the flowchart for final PI approval by March 8th.
• Stefano and Sonia traveled to Taiwan for an RDM/Dataverse-focused conference involving National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University where there is a new Dataverse installation, and Taipei Veterans General Hospital. Siacus presented to both groups on AI and Principles of Data Sharing in Generalist Repositories, and Sonia presented on the user experience in the Dataverse platform. Continued collaborations with The Veteran’s hospital have been established beginning with installation development to share their data/large data internally.

Harvard Dataverse

• Internal meeting to discuss immediate support needs of large data projects (8TB - 350TB) from the biomedical field (Harvard and non-Harvard) on Globus/NESE
• A survey was mailed to all HDV accounts (74,000) to collect data on the challenges and strengths of using the HDV repository; survey summary will be presented at Dataverse Community Meeting 2024, CIMMYT, Mexico
• A data curation, NIH-GREI DMP and HDV Guidance webinar was provided to the Botswana-Harvard AIDS Institute Partnership (BHP) that is securing an installation in their Botswana office.
• Sonia Barbosa and Julie Goldman remain active members of the GREI SYNC: Communications and Community engagement subcommittee, Sonia remains on the “Planning” subcommittee that meets biweekly

General

• GREI year 3 task prioritization approval submitted

Harvard Dataverse and Dataverse

The following data sharing trainings were offered by the Dataverse team:

• 1/11/24: NORC HEAL DSC Harvard Dataverse Repository meeting - Sonia met with the HEAL Team to learn about their Standard Data Package Metadata Schema that describes how their datasets are packaged for sharing in repositories. We are assessing is this system works for easy deposit into HDV or if HDV needs to make any changes to support this workflow.

• Reported to the "Feedback" group that we will have a blog on "open repositories" taking place in June (proposal on GREI updates)
• We have a Dataverse/NIH user who will present in this May webinar "FASEB webinar 1pm ET on May 23rd" on their collection in Harvard Dataverse - webinar was postponed due to not enough speakers

• In March, we discussed a potential press release to announce Dataverse co-chairing GREI year 3 and think this can be a collab between IQSS and Harvard Crimson (as they did a cover for the 2024 community meeting in CIMMYT). This release will need approval from NIH/Ishwar before going public.

• Planning meeting in early June focused on several proposals due August 4th for RDA -

Harvard Dataverse

• Attended open repositories and presented on CAFE and GREI

• Completion: Ongoing
• During this quarter, the GREI Blog announced that a Dataverse team member will co-chair year 3 of the Coopetition. In addition, members of the Dataverse Team attended GREI Community Feedback Calls (Comparison Chart) for ICs on 3/29 and attended IASSIST2024 in Nova Scotia. There, they presented on the Evolution of the Dataverse Project, including update on GREI activities. The following DV team members also presented at conferences during this quarter: Stefano Iacus, Ceilyn Boyd, Sonia Barbosa, Jim Myers, Julian Gautier, Gustavo Durand, Ellen Krafmiller, and Phil Durbin.

• The Dataverse team engaged in two conferences, presenting on GREI: IASSIST and Open Repositories, 2024. Members of the Dataverse Team also attended GREI Community Feedback Calls (Comparison Chart) for ICs on 3/29. Two blogs were completed, co-led by Sonia: The FlowChart and Open Repositories.
• The GitHub Task Group, led by Sonia, developed the GREI GitHub repository for Y1-3. The Blog announcing this Github Space going public, and how the community can interact with the “tasks” and “deliverables” is in process. The Task Force decided along with the Feedback unit that enabling the “Discussion” feature on GitHub is a good option for the community to engage with the GREI work and help inform the plans for Y4.

• The Dataverse team led or participated in several community engagement activities during Q3. These activities included Dataverse training for the Barcelona Supercomputing Center; Harvard Dataverse outreach and training plan development starting in Q4 and continuing through Year 4; and writing and publishing a blog announcing the GREI GitHub Repository and Discussion Group. In addition, Sonia Barbosa gave a Keynote Presentation at UbuntuNet Connect 2024.
