Describe the bug

I've got three Google photos weights on my phone screen. Every time after watching a YouTube video on landscape orientation (full screen) the photo widgets' content shrinks (although the widgets occupy the same space) and stay that way until restarting the lawnchair or, if home screen rotation is enabled, rotating the phone to horizontal position and back to vertical.

Also one of my folders randomly moves to the upper left corner, however it pops back into place the moment I touch the screen.

Steps to reproduce

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Place a Google Photos Widget on home screen
  2. Open YouTube app
  3. Play a video on full screen landscape mode
  4. Go back to home screen
  5. The widget looks small

Expected behavior

The widget content should maintain it's size.

Device information

  • Device: OnePlus 7T
  • OS: Oxygen OS 12 [stock ROM Android version 12.0]
  • App version: nightly 8eee1af

Additional context

The widget size is the same, its just the contents that shrinks

I can't reproduce this, did you enable home screen rotation and Settings -> General?

This happens regardless of home screen rotation setting. I just keep it on to be able to quickly fix the issue (faster than restarting the launcher).
Maybe it has something to do with other settings...
My grid size is 7x10
widgets overlap a bit (overlaping enabled)
widget size limit and force widget size toggles do not seem to have any impact on this issue.

I also need to let youtube play at least a few seconds. Once i tried to do this very quickly, and the issue didn't occur.
When I exit youtube the widgets seem to reload - first are just grey semitransparent squares, then reload as small photos.

I've just noticed one more step is required:
between 3. and 4. - exit full screen mode on youtube video and rotate phone back to vertical orientation. THEN exit youtube.

When I exit straight to home screen while the video is still playing in landscape mode - the widgets remain proper size or even get fixed if they were already shrunk.

On the other hand, viewing youtube in landcape -> back to vertical with small player -> exit to homescreen -> widgets messed up.

I can confirm this happens with the google weather and calendar widgets as well. I can also confirm that some widgets don't have the issue.

I haven't discovered any reliable reproduction steps (my hunch was it had to do with Android transparently killing lawnchair in the background), but I think you might be on to something with the screen rotation. The size that gets rendered looks the same as what you get when the phone is in landscape orientation with screen rotation turned on.

Configuration:

  • Pixel 5
  • Android 14
  • Lawnchair 14 beta 3
  • I don't normally enable screen rotation, but I did turn it on at one point to try it out. (not sure if it matters)

Fantastic app, by the way!
