.SH NAME
bwedit \- Text editor for Bengali (Version 3.0)
.SH SYNOPSIS
.B bwedit
.br
.B bwedit
file1 file2 ...
.br
.B bwedit
[options]
.SH DESCRIPTION
.B bwedit
is an experimental text editor for Bengali. It runs on any X11 window system
having the Tcl/Tk shell
.BR wish (1).
The basic features of
.B bwedit
include
.IP "\fBGUI\fP"
The graphical interface is very easy-to-use and effective.
.IP "\fBMultiple editor windows\fP"
.B bwedit
version 2.0 onwards supports working with multiple editor
windows.
.IP "\fBCharacter buttons\fP"
There is no need to remember character maps for the huge
unmanagable Bengali alphabet. Click on the character buttons in the keyboard map window
to insert these characters at the current cursor position.
.IP "\fBKeyboard input\fP"
All characters can be inserted using keyboard only. For characters at
higher ASCII positions, control sequences are defined as an alternative to the character
buttons.
.IP "\fBRoman transliteration\fP"
If you choose, you may write romanized Bengali (7 bit ASCII). If you
follow a set of simple rules,
.B bwedit
can convert the transliterated text to Bengali - on-line.
The rules are simple, at least I think so!
.IP "\fBExport facilities\fP"
You can generate HTML, LaTeX and PostScript files from Bengali text
files.
.IP "\fBTags\fP"
Select text and change the display style of the selected text to subscript, superscript,
underlined text ... You can insert Roman characters (and characters corresponding to any X
font you have) anywhere in the editor text. These tags can be saved and exported making
.B bwedit
(almost) WYSIWYG.
.IP "\fBMail facilities\fP"
.B bwedit
gives you facilities to send Bengali documents (Bengali text or
transliterated ascii text) through e-mail. Since Bengali documents may contain 8-bit data,
encoding of this to 7-bit ASCII is necessary. In addition to the built-in encoder,
.B bwedit
provides interface to MIME- and uu- encoding techniques. Versions 2.0 onwards
is also capable of reading a local mail folder and display the mails
interactively.
.IP "\fBConfiguration\fP"
You may configure
.B bwedit
in a variety of ways. You may change colors,
window size, default font size and so on. You may even customize the Roman-to-Bengali
encoding scheme to define an encoding that suits you better.
.IP "\fBHelp\fP"
.B bwedit
comes with extensive on-line help.
.IP "\fBSpell checking\fP"
Version 3.0 onwards of
.B bwedit
supports spell checking in the Romanized editing mode.
