While it may be seen as a waste of space and elderly people having difficulties catching up with technology, we actually have small 4K screens today (27 inch on desktop, ~13 laptop), which driven at native resolution (yep same argument, waste of space) can make 8px fonts look uncomfortably tiny. Ideally would be a layout or mechanism that allows to change the font size or make the font size adjust to window size (Ausweis App does this).
I thought Raspberry Pi Imager did it a lot better, but at first sight it also uses quite tiny fonts. Once you open a modal dialog the font size is okay. So my suggestion would be to consider making the font size a tad bigger like Raspberry Pi Imager does, or do it Ausweis App.
