Nitter's method of issuing guest accounts no longer works due to a change in X/Twitter (zedeus/nitter#1200). It also hard-codes the authenticating account age to not be more than 30 days, meaning patches like zedeus/nitter#983 (comment) are necessary use older accounts. This effectively makes an unpatched Nitter unusable.
Nitter hasn't seen a commit to its master branch in 8 months, so alternatives like https://github.com/PrivacyDevel/nitter have started to appear to address gaps in maintenance. It might be worth considering switching to a fork.
