So before trying to use the LEDenabler I could turn on the leds using the dedicated button near the laptop's power button. However they would only turn on white.

So starting from that state I pulled down your linux zip file and tried to run

 ./msiledenabler -mode normal -color1 blue -color2 green -color3 red -level 3

which gave me "Unable to open MSI Led device.", so I ran as sudo and my leds turned off, and are no longer responsive to the button which used to turn them on and off.

Maybe the MSI led controller for your laptop is a little different than GT60, decompile the original one and see the values that are you sending via HID.

I am also affected by this issue, but I would not know how to properly fix it.
If you guide me in decompilation, I can send you what you need to fix it, may it be possible?

I use GS60 Ghost Pro. Your soft is working well (need to launch 10 times at least cause Unable to open MSI device and sometimes normal)! But my keyboard blinking from the start in OSX. A lot of usb errors generating in LOGs. I think keyboard LED is not supported by system and need to patch DSDT or something. If anyone knows how - make me know.
