SONIC CLEAN ENGINE: DUST EDITION
I think it's best to document the engine features, especially the changes
; ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Basics
SCED is an upgraded version of SCE. It brings together a variety of code and techniques from Sonic hackers and general megadrive enthusiasts, to bring peak performance out of this ancient system. I plan to use practically everything it's got, pushing emulators to there knees
The engine targets the following in order of priority
- Real SEGA Megadrive/Genesis hardware
- RetroArch cores; BlastEm, Genesis Plus GX, Picodrive
- Kega Fusion 3.64 (not running Mode 1)
- a variety of emulators, for much smaller checks
; ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Audio
Sound Driver - Clone Driver v2.7b/MegaPCM v1.1, modified with MD+ and MSU-MD support
; ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Controller types
3-button controller
- The standard, not much to say
6-button controller (optional)
- code adjusts between 3pad and 6pad handling automatically
- fixed bug where 3pad activates 6pad inputs when pressing up and down (notable example being SOR3)
- ISSUE: Unlike other options, disabling 6pad still keeps its RAM space and code
; ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
SRAM (optional)
Contains a word-sized checksum, 8 letter string, byte-sized version number, and an additional byte which may see later use
- If string isn't there, init SRAM
- If checksum fails, load backup onto the main SRAM
- If version number is an older version, convert SRAM to new type. If a newer version, do... something.
I highly advise that final versions of a game only revise SRAM when absolutely necessary
Currently no debug versions of SRAM
; ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Misc
Emulation detection, to account for inaccuracies
Addon detection, to enhance the systems capabilities
; ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Planned features
Custom MSU-MD that I think you'll love
Multitap (4WayPlay and/or Multitap, 4 player planned only)
Keyboard controllers (XBand and/or Saturn Keyboard. Converts configurable inputs into 6pad controls, rather then true keyboard support)
Wifi (MegaWifi and/or Retro.Link)
; ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion
It doesn't support C code, 0/10 completely unworkable
