Steam shows (all?) friend activity since last game shutdown after launching a game

Distro: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
Steam version: beta (latest)

Since probably the latest beta version Steam has the annoying tendency to show all friend activity since the last time you shutdown a game, after launching a game. Which can result upon a deluge of notifications popping up in the bottom corner.

Addendum: Steam not only shows it - but it also shows it in duplicate or even triplicate. Same for when you're active yourself, notifications come in duplicate or triplicate. It's maddening.
