I just tried Clone Hero and YARG for the first time. They each seem to have a mental model that wasn't obvious to me as someone who's only ever played Rock Band: each instrument gets a profile, and you have to find the right settings page to map it by hand. This isn't intuitive to me - I'd presume that a profile would be for a person, and that a person could play multiple different instruments in a single session.

I propose a first time setup screen that says something like "Welcome to YARG! Let's get your instruments set up" with a cancel button that says "I'd rather play on a keyboard for now." If you continue through the wizard, it will ask you if you have a guitar you'd like to set up, drums, another guitar…. Each one has you go through all the buttons that you need.

Hopefully it can also be smart enough to learn common profiles. I suspect every Harmonix Drum Controller for Nintendo Wii will have the same default mapping. It would be great if we could program those into YARG to make it easier to start playing as quickly as possible.

I'd be happy to supply mappings for the Wii instruments if we can get default profiles built-in.
