Uploading Product Images for use in SP-API Listings API calls

Hi all,

I'm a fairly new SP-API user so please bear with me.

Does the SP-API provide functionality to upload product images as part of the Listing process to a https or s3 endpoint so it can be used as the "main_product_image_locator" attribute. I'm wondering if the Uploads API or the A+ Content API could be used?

Without this, I guess, prior to the listing API call I could use the AWS SDK S3 Client to up an image to a private S3 bucket with the required download permissions with a lifecycle policy to automatically delete the image and clean up after a couple of days.

What does everyone else do, when their images aren't already hosted in S3/HTTPS.

You can use Listings APIs to upload images for your listings. Upload APIs are intended for a different kind of documents such as invoices. A+ Content APIs are used to create rich, high-quality content that helps buyers make purchasing decisions.

Refer to Submitting images and other media attributes to see acceptable image sources via Listings APIs.

Just to clarify, you need to manually upload the image yourself to somewhere accessible by Aws prior to using the listing API. You cannot actually upload image binary content with the listings API, you can only specify image URLs that you have previously made available when listing.

That is correct, you can upload image binary content with the listings API. You need to provide a uri starting with https or s3. You can use any third-party servers to host images but need to ensure that they are publicly available to Amazon.

Thank you. That makes sense. Once the backend listing API has retrieved the image from the private S3 bucket for example, and the listing is live, can the original image be deleted from the S3 bucket, or does it need to remain there for as long as the listing is live, and potentially revised.

After successfully uploading and displaying images on the product listings page, it's recommended to remove them from the S3 bucket to conserve storage space and reduce expenses.
