Submodule updating error

We used to have a make submodules step in the example Makefiles and then changed it to have just make do it all automatically. This works fine on initialisation but there have been issues when say doing development and changing dep/sddf to a different commit and then when running make it would revert the submodule back to the commit hash for the checkout of LionsOS.

This shouldn't be too hard to fix but I can't do it right now so am making a reminder.
