Game version is not supported!

I keep getting the error "game version is not supported!" when trying to launch the game.
Here is what I get from logs

[02:34:20][ERROR] Game version is not supported!

No other logs are being generated but it's on version 1.14d lutris

I recommend you run the game on windows platform, and make sure the game version is original

I'm getting the same error. I downloaded and installed the original D2 + LoD from Blizzard, input my CD keys, and it plays perfectly. When I try using d2gl and the flag, I get an error saying "Game version not supported".

I assume d2gl is doing something weird to get the game version on startup that doesn't work, so it kills the game entirely. Since it doesn't even get to the point of generating a config file, I can't try and tweak any configs to fix it.

Im having the same issue, when removing the D2GL patch files, the game launches fine. If i try to launch the game with the D2GL patch and the "-3dfx" launch option, I get the same error and log file.

D2DX also does not work for me with "Error 1: Diablo II is unable to proceed. Unsupported graphics mode."

UPDATE:
I had to login to battle.net and update to the latest 1.14d patch. The game comes installed with 1.14b version.
