The non-s2i community image "jboss/base-jdk:8" is also not so optimal as it is not versioned at all and e.g. based on a "jboss/base:latest" [1] which in turn is based on "centos:7" [2] and does some unpinned package updates. So depending on when you build the image you get different content. The Dockerfiles of both builds have not been updated since ~ 2 years.

Maybe its better to build up a CentOS based image completely on our own ?

The best is probably to just shutdown this variant as we already have a CentOS based image.
