I'm receiving notification that the extension is out of date:

the Please Update It! link takes me to this page where it shows the following:

however, the version on AMO is 2.13.1:

is this extension on AMO going to be updated soon or should I just do it manually?

I'm seeing this same and also getting errors when trying to open an app. App installation still works well.

Yeah, launching from the extension menu works but my pinned shortcuts break even after re-pinning.

Yeah, as mentioned in #616 (comment), new extension version hasn't been reviewed yet. I guess it will be reviewed next week.

To fix the issue with launching web apps, you will need to manually update the native program to 2.13.2. You can see more details in #600.

You need to manually update the native program to 2.13.2. You can download it from GitHub release.

Here’s the revised version of your text with improved clarity and structure:

I've been testing to identify what’s causing the problems with the browser. It seems that the issue may stem from either the browser itself or the extensions being used. For testing purposes, I've been using YouTube as a ground to observe the behavior. Here’s what I’ve found so far:

Initial Behavior:

  • If you can get the menu bar to show, add your designated app as a bookmark. This will allow you to load it, even if it doesn’t load initially.
  • Once the application loads, you have one chance to configure settings, bookmarks, or other options.
  • If you don’t act quickly, the browser might load a blank page or fail to function as expected.

Extension Issues:

  • Extensions, particularly those that interact heavily with webpages, tend to break the browser’s functionality.
  • For example:
    • uBlock Origin: If enabled during startup, the webpage may fail to load completely. To fix this, you’ll need to disable it, reload the program, and then re-enable it.
    • Internet Download Manager & Read Aloud: These extensions require manual refreshing (turning them off and on) after the browser loads to work properly.
    • Some extensions load in the background but don't activate correctly until you refresh them.

Steps to Fix Issues:

  1. After the browser launches, go to Tools > Add-ons and Themes, and manually toggle each extension off and on to ensure they work correctly.
  2. Once the extensions are refreshed, navigate to your bookmarked application or webpage and reload it.
  3. Avoid pinning bookmarks or using overflow menus, as this can make them inaccessible.

Important Notes:

  • Extensions like uBlock Origin may completely block certain webpages if they were enabled during the last session.
  • After loading a page, the browser seems to “shut down” many of its functions, leaving only the webpage active, which disables many options.
  • Bookmarking and directly accessing the application webpage is still problematic unless the extensions are refreshed properly.

This version should be clearer and more concise while maintaining all the important details from your original message. Let me know if you need any further adjustments!

This seems to work now, but if you have any shortcuts, such as those on the toolbar or in your start menu, they will now be null and void. You’ll need to edit the original link as follows:

  1. From:
    "C:\Program Files\FirefoxPWA\firefoxpwa.exe" site launch 01JHmngkVDCQFMhvjhvghjvhjY

    to:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\FirefoxPWA\firefoxpwa.exe" site launch 01JHmngkVDCQFMhvjhvghjvhjY

  2. Update it to ensure the "Open Location" feature works properly again.

After editing, the links in the app should work as expected.

Steps for Updating the Shortcut:

  1. Find the application in your Start Menu.
  2. Right-click on it, select More, then choose Open File Location.
  3. Right-click on the shortcut file, select Properties, and update the Target field to the correct path.
  4. Click Apply and OK to save the changes.

Additional Notes:

  • You may need to load the application twice for the changes to take effect.

See my note I fixed it instantly

Now that it semi-fixed is there any reason why have to open up the pwa newly created app or modified shortcut twice one for it to fail one for it to load properly

It appears that you've previously had the 64-bit version installed, but then you installed the 32-bit version. I recommend that you uninstall all PWAsForFirefox versions listed in control panel or system settings, and install the 64-bit version (firefoxpwa-2.13.2-x86_64.msi). You can then run "Update web apps" and "Patch profiles and runtime" from the extension settings.

@mjbandroid I guess that might be the same issue as #572. There are some issues with the session storage but I don't know why they happen and how to fix them.

Extension version 2.13.2 has also been approved and is now available, so I'll close the issue.

I got the 2.13.2 update on mac but I'm still getting the same error I posted earlier.

I can install web apps but they won't open.

That seems like a different issue. Please try to run both "Patch profiles and runtime" and "Update web apps" from the extension settings.

If that doesn't help, please check what happens if you try to launch the PWA from terminal using firefoxpwa site launch SITE-ID. Also, does the loader file inside Contents/MacOS inside the PWA bundle/app exist and can you run it directly?

@vmvartiainen

Okay here are the results:

  • Patch profiles and runtime -> No effect
  • Update web apps -> No effect
  • Reinstall runtime -> No effect
  • Launching from terminal -> The application cannot be opened because its executable is missing.
  • Loader file -> I need more instructions to find this, couldn't locate the folders

Go to ~/Applications and find your PWA. You should then right click on the PWA and select something like "Show Package Contents".

There is no loader file if I understood this correct.

Please try to install the website from the terminal and provide logs. For example:

firefoxpwa site install https://github.com/manifest.json

It seems that your Xcode CLT installation is somehow broken. You can try to remove it and then install it again:

sudo rm -rf /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools
xcode-select --install

Then, try to install the website again.

I've also found this. As mentioned there, if simply reinstalling doesn't work, maybe you will have to download Xcode CLT from the Apple website...

Problem solved! The solution was to install xcode 16.2 by logging into the Apple Developer Portal.

Then I just updated web apps from PWA settings. That's it!

Thank you very much @filips123 for your kind help!
