bhottu can't connect to channels on Freenode

Bhottu can connect to irc.freenode.net, but can't seem to connect to the channels. I've tried making the Bhottu on the invite-only exclude list, and also inviting bhottu, but to no avail.

Unless using SSL, I discovered.

iirc we explored this before bhottu was on github, it has something to do with the information we provide the server with upon connect (or it did last time this issue appeared)
