Strangely enough, I had no trouble finding open and closed issues talking about aux: https://github.com/git-for-windows/git/issues?q=is%3Aissue%20state%3Aopen%20aux

tl;dr aux (and also aux.c) is not a legal file name on Windows.

The easiest method to review this might be to clone into WSL. Or review on the web (since you clearly did not mean to do a full review with test build and such, seeing as you cannot build a Linux kernel on Windows).
