Thanks for the suggestion. A language specific symbol will likely not work for this style of course. Due to the functional similarity to emergency=fire_hydrant a common symbol design principle for both might be a good idea. All of this however depends on a resolution to #3635. |
Is this a feature that is useful for a general-purpose map? Almost all of these features can be tagged with an additional tag which we already support: e.g. This tag provides that additional information that the water supply is intended or available for emergency use, but that information is rather specialized. In Australia emergency water supplies are now mandated in some areas of high fire risk. It would be useful to have these rendered on the map to support fire fighting resources. Its currently used around 16,000 times across the globe (both nodes and ways).

A suggestion for a suitable symbol could be the 'Australian All Hazards Symbology" for a waterpoint which is a simple circle with the letter W in the middle. https://www.emsina.org/allhazardssymbology
