Music controls don't work

I’ve been using Cordova plugin music controls and they worked fine up until more recent android updates.

Now it doesn’t show up at all. Doesn’t error or anything just doesn’t show

I’ve played around with it for a while trying all sorts of things the create returns success. calling listen doesn’t cause any errors. I’m just getting nothing

Environment

• Plugin version: 2.2.0
• Platform: android using ionic
• OS version: cordova-android 7.1.4
• Device manufacturer / model: pixel 3
• Cordova version (cordova -v): 8.1.2
• Cordova platform version (cordova platform ls): android
• Ionic Version (if using Ionic) v3

Work around:
cordova plugin add https://github.com/521dimensions/cordova-music-controls-plugin.git
