"They say the sky is the limit. I always shoot for the moon though ;D",
"Hi! I'm Hector, a JavaScript frontend engineer with an academic background in scientific programming and +5 years of professional experience in the UK. I have helped build a diverse set of large-scale single-page apps: from an e-commerce platform for a London-based startup to an award-winning ontology manager for Big Pharma from scratch. My expertise is in Vue.js but I'm currently learning React and have also dabbled in Angular.",
"I'm a crafter that normally straddles the boundary between UX and code. My ultimate aim is to strike a balance between functionality and usability, letting the latter be the true driving force as much as possible. In essence, the big picture matters. That's why I love sweeping vistas.",

Developed in Angular, their single-page app for submission and validation relies heavily on dynamic forms to support generic studies that are not catered for by any other EBI service. My remit was to improve the overall reliability and intuitiveness of the app as well as delivering new features such as a real-time form checklist, validation groups or bulk file uploading."

"description": "As the UX engineer at SciBite, I was tasked with every aspect of CENtree's single-page app. CENtree is a new ontology management platform improving on the familiar features of the Ontology Lookup Service by the European Bioinformatics Institute and extending them with novel functionality such as in-line term previews, WYSIWYG tree editing or reactive network graph renderings of relationships. All implemented in Vue JS to accommodate both discovery and specific user journeys while preserving simplicity. The target audience were scientists with a mixed technical background. The app won the Bio-IT World's Best of Show award in May 2022. Beyond CENtree, I also liaised with other groups such as the DOCstore team to align the identity and customer experience of all the apps in the SciBite ecosystem."

"description": "As part of my wider remit to re-align UIs across SciBite, I helped with the re-design of the DOCstore app, a smart search engine that harnesses entity indexing to simplify the process of finding semantically relevant results from scientific literature. Expected personas ranged from the lab technician performing a single specific search to the biomedical scientist seeking relationships through serendipity. Given that both detailed control and simplicity were paramount, a progressive-reveal approach was adopted where specialist UI elements would be presented incrementally as the user progressed with their search. A prominent example of this was the search typeahead, whose rich interface was designed to allow two modes of search –entity and document– while avoiding cognitive overload as much as possible."
