I just saw this is basically part of #1. But stopping after being rate limited would be a good first step.

Also, knowing how long the limitation lasts would be nice. HTTP status code 429 should include a header that tells us how long to wait: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTTP/Status/429
