I don't think we'll ever get the python and the c code from the ORPG to match. It might be easier to also include the c code as a specific library with a python wrapper on it.

I think that's a good idea, we should move forward with the fastest solution. Data processing should not be the core functionality of the hotspots package - it should be good at producing hotspots, and ideally the user would already provide the "best available" data quality (I'm thinking about users of non-NEXRAD data).
