setCheckpoint and continuePolling undefined on kinesis client object

The readme seemed to suggest these functions should be called but they appear to be inaccessible from the the kinesis client object. Is there something I am missing? Are they made available in some way to be called?

I guess you are referring to setCheckpoint ?

Both functions are returned in the handler for the data event:

kinesis.on('data', data => {
