Hi and a happy new year! :)

An old device is being displayed even though I’ve formatted my computer.

Where is this device/information stored, and how can I delete it?

Hi Mike,

October doesn't store any information about devices (only your Readwise token on disc and some user preferences) so it'll be detecting a Kobo plugged in via USB.

If you don't have anything plugged in, it'd be the first case of that happening and/or a non-Kobo device being detected 🤔

Hey Marcus,

Thanks for your response!

Here’s the issue I’m facing: I’m still being shown a Kobo that I previously used with October.

At some point, I had issues with Calibre, so I reset the Kobo Clara BW to factory settings.

I also tried completely uninstalling October from my computer and then reinstalling it, but the same Kobo keeps showing up, even when NO device is currently connected to my computer.

Best regards,
Mike

Hey Mike,

Since you're on the latest version, can you select the "Unknown Kobo" and then under Settings, click the button to open up the logs?

If you select the most recent log (since you're running the latest beta, they're plain text files and have a bit more info than the old JSON ones), it should give some hint as to where October thinks the device is mounted at.

It should be safe to paste here but if you understandably don't want to share it publicly, you can email it to [email protected] as well, or feel free to read through it yourself if you're comfortable doing that.

It's definitely a new one as October is completely stateless (no caching or anything) apart from the settings file which doesn't contain any device information, just a Readwise token and some upload settings.

Given that, I wouldn't expect uninstalling October to change anything there. Perhaps Windows has something virtually mounted that's being picked up for reasons I can't think of? Knowing what path it thinks a Kobo / USB device lives at should give us a starting point anyway.

I'm going to be on a short vacation starting later today but I'll be back in about 2 or 3 days so I'll get back to you then.

Thanks again,

Marcus
