Expected behaviour

Either the intended text formatting, or no text formatting and no HTML tags

Actual behaviour

Screenshot at 2021-05-26 20-21-04
Tooltip has <b> and <small> tags around the volume level and output device, making it a bit hard to read

Steps to reproduce the behaviour

Hover the cursor over the volume icon in the taskbar

MATE general version

mate-desktop 1.24.0-2

Package version

mate-media 1.24.0-linuxmint2

Linux Distribution

Linux Mint 20.1 MATE 64-bit

With locally built 1.25 versions of everything from git master, I cannot duplicate this on Debian Unstable in either the status icon or the (normally used on my box) panel applet. In both cases I get this result (panel moved to top so compiz can show the tooltip within screen area):

I messed around with the panel, and the tooltip formatting is fine if I add the XApp status applet, before I was just using the notification area applet and not both

With xapp-sn-watcher NOT running, I again could not duplicate this bug with either the volume control status icon or the volume control panel applet. New audio system (and rest of the board after one died...) but same results

Looks like this may be an issue on newer installs too:

Yes, works fine

with XApp Status Applet.
Package: xfce4-xapp-status-plugin 0.2.4+uma

Looks like default Notification Area

doesn't support HTML in tooltips.

Where is the HTML coming from?

The Tooltip have two HTML tags <b> and <small>

Pretty sure we would not put it in libmatemixer but then leave it unsupported in mate-media.

I see this is problem in Notification Area, package libmate-panel-applet-4-1.
In my laptop have installed version 1.24.0-2 where HTML tags not supported (LinuxMint 20.2).
But I checked in another laptop with installed version 1.26.2-1 works fine (LinuxMint 21.1).

So, XApp Status Applet is solution for old libmate-panel-applet-4-1 package (old LinuxMint).

Thank you.
