This doesn't work with any combination of modifiers?

Could it be another addon that use this shortcut?

Could you try to change this shortcut in the Firefox settings: Open Addons Manager about:addons, click on the gear icon (top-right corner) > Manage Extensions Shortcuts?

I had some difficulty with alt+e on mac too, ended up discovering that the default alt+e key is a terminator key that has the character ´, which behaves differently from normal keypresses.

To fix this, I ended up installing a custom keyboard layout that is slightly modified to disable the behavior (seems to be baked into macos keyboard weirdness with the option key).

If you want to do this fix yourself, I'd suggest using the program Ukelele to modify the keyboard. Otherwise if you use QWERTY there is a keylayout gist I found here that might work. This also disables all other option key features, namely being able to type special characters, so keep that in mind.

Put the .keylayout or .bundle file in /Library/Keyboard Layouts then you can add the new layout from the normal place in System Settings.
