When clicking with left mouse button on taskbar icon a popup menu opens instead of whatsdesk, instead of the menu whatsdesk should open, and when using a right button click the popup menu should open.

You could temporarily fix this as you can do with most Electron applications. The way to do it is to create two empty files in the program directory. The names are libappindicator3.so.1 and libappindicator3.so.
If you create these files a single click on a tray icon for the related app will show/hide the window instead of opening the menu. But it comes with the caveat that the icon becomes pretty blurry, at least on my KDE.

Command to create these files for Whatsdesk:

sudo touch /opt/whatsdesk/libappindicator3.so.1 /opt/whatsdesk/libappindicator3.so
