This public comment is respectfully submitted by the Web Service Technical Panel (WSTP) of the Defence Geospatial Information Working Group (DGIWG). This comment is specifically directed toward 24-014 OGC SWE COMMON DATA MODEL ENCODING STANDARD. This document makes it clear that XML is deprecated (page xv). Page 41, second paragraph (note), then contradicts this statement by JSON or XML document. There are further references to XML on page 73/75 too. Page 175-181 – this has an XML model example (B.1examples) before the JSON encoded examples in B.2. Again in C.1 (page 188) there is a reference to GML being extracted from the SWE ‘Records’. Page 69 has a reference to OGC 06-103r4 which is an XML based encoding for feature geometries. This appears to be at odds with the comments above regarding XML deprecation. Please clarify the intended relationship between this standard and XML and reference that clarified relationship consistently where it applies throughout the document.
