Regression: MCS caching layer issues #3010

To Reproduce

Still need to debug but some of the mcs calculations in the pipeline failed. They are now, however, set to fail but still allow completion of the pipeline so sadly some of that data will now appear empty.

Describe the Bug

See above. Still need to debug.

Expected Behavior

Shouldn't fail.

This is likely related to some changes I made recently to some MCS code. I'll debug and write some testing
