Hi there, 1st of all thanks for your (volunteer) work !
Since the project's goal is unification it would be extremely interesting - if it hasn't already been considered - to "grab" the @kierank's x262 approach: make the best-in-class features available for all codecs, without (anyway) breaking their standards.
