Can't follow from GoToSocial instance

I am unable to follow any hashtags from GoToSocial instance. It's stuck at "Follow requested".

The logs don't show anything unusual, I think. Hashtag doesn't seem to respond to the follow at all.

I also tried following from the calckey.world instance and it's also stuck at follow requested.

I'm not sure what's causing that, I tried from FireFish and wasn't able to follow a number of other more mainstream clients. Is there a public instance I can create an account on to monitor logs from?

I'm having the same issue from a gotosocial instance v0.17.3+git-6f4cb2f.
Happy to test and send log info.
