Current implementations are very minimal and leave a lot to be desired (e.g. #17). They really should be classed as "experimental" until developed more.

Dev documentation for implementing custom scales for {ggplot2} is lacking but we can look at other packages for guidance. Most useful and relevant will be this PR for {clock} which should help a lot.

It would be much appreciated if the solution to address this issue is accompanied by a tutorial/blog post.
