Serenity Reporting after version 3.8.1

Hello,

We are trying to upgrade our serenity version (from 3.6.21 to 3.9.8, i.e. the latest version that supports java 1.8 as we are limited to using that at the moment).
It seems something has changed in the reporting engine and would be good to know if I need to do something to fix it.

Going from 3.6.21 to 3.8.1 is fine and everything runs as normal.

But if upgrading to 3.9.x we start to see issues in the serenity report generation (tests still run fine).

I see warnings/errors like this:
[WARNING] Failed to load requirements: Trailing char < > at index 35: exams/verify_links_on_emm_home_page
java.nio.file.InvalidPathException: Trailing char < > at index 35: exams/verify_links_on_emm_home_page
If I look inside this feature file I see nothing out of the ordinary (that I can tell).

And the console tends to hang on these for about 40 minutes:
[INFO] GENERATING SUMMARY REPORTS...
[INFO] GENERATING REQUIREMENTS REPORTS...
