For the Outline to work, you must use a "Link to page" basic block rather than mention page feature.

This doesn't work. It will cause the current page to be treated like a normal page rather than part of the outline.

Actually, we may not want to allow for this. For one thing, pages added with the mention do not appear in Notion's outline on the left side:

But we do need to improve the warning message in the log which is not very helpful.

Note: The page "Making Decodable Readers" is in the outline, has content, and also points at other pages. It will be treated as a simple content page. This is no problem, unless you intended to have all your content pages in the database (kanban workflow) section.

  1. If we can detect this specific scenario, let's call it out explicitly. i.e. Page "My Page" is included with a mention but should be a "Link to page" instead.
  2. I think we can probably clarify what we mean by "It will be treated as a simple content page." Namely, it means that the pages linked to are not part of the outline and are thus not published.

JH says the missing items in the outline is not a reason not to allow for these style links in the Outline.
