in the wikipedia one it doesn't come back from world of readers to world of wikipedia infra - just my observation

Thats true. They kind of get articles back, but it is a complicated relation since 1) Authors (like any group) care more about in-group fame (fellow authors) than out-group recognition (by readers)
2) The Wikimedia infrastructure getting the donations take a wired in-between position representing Wikipedia but actually being only a part of it (and it does not make much sense to explain all that in a donation banner either)

We did not cover this in the research, but I guess what software gets back are jobs close to academia.
