Does not work with Wayland

I've tried highlight-pointer on KDE/Plasma with Wayland, and I only see a red dot somewhere in the upper right quadrant of the monitor, which stays there when I move the mouse. The mouse pointer is still the standard cursor without any highlighting. When I switch to KDE/Plasma with X11, it works as designed.
