Talked to Rik, he thinks the jet palette is not linearly distributing its colors and therefore may not be the "state of the art"

Note that viridis (or parula in Matlab) is often preferred over jet as it offers a better / linear / more monotonous visualization of quantitative data. See e.g. teh discussion here: https://stats.stackexchange.com/questions/223315/why-use-colormap-viridis-over-jet
