Set of initial thoughts on potential revisions noted at time of launch (brain dump mainly) that can get ported into separate issues later:

  • allow multiple selections for some of the dropdown filters (e.g., subject, university)
  • change how the search logic works (it seems to be OR’ing things at the moment, and I didn’t want to change anything with that until you all could take a look and decide what logic you’d like)
  • add a language dropdown filter
  • change some of the visualizations (could, for example, have a tab for each data type (subject, university, etc.) and then within each of those tabs allow any of the visualizations to be shown for that piece of data.
  • styling/layout changes
  • add a separate page to show more details about a thesis, or add more details to the modal that appears now.
  • possibly provide a link to the RDF page for each data type (actor, university, etc.), styled as HTML or plain text
  • include html links on anything that has linked data associated with it.
  • change how the bubbles appear on the map - at the moment, most of the records are at U of Alberta so that bubble was absolutely enormous compared to others, so I put a ‘cap’ on the bubble size, which might not be quite the right cap. Could change the colour for each university bubble. Could label each bubble, probably also with a logo.
  • change the ’See Abstract’ button which is a bit glaring and out of place - again a case where I thought it best to wait for your opinions before doing anything further.
  • the search from the landing page opens results in the main page, but doesn’t populate the text search input with the query from the front page bar (fixable)
  • font changes anywhere on site.
  • Add CanLink logo to About and Contact modals.
  • navigating back and forth through queries (breadcrumb kind of idea)
  • incorporate SPARQL query somehow, either redirecting, or allowing search directly from new canLink UI, and showing results directly in new canLink.
