\n\nThis workshop will cover methods to process data acquired through Web API queries. Participants will learn how to use the Python dictionary data structure to query APIs from the Industry Archives, National Library of Medicine, and cloud based AI services.

\n\nThis workshop is part of a broader series covering programming for the digital humanities, with an emphasis on document and text analysis. Although these workshops do not have any formal prerequisites, some background in Python and SQL would be helpful. These workshops will build on material from previous sessions, so it is recommended but not requred to take the workshops in sequence.

\n\nThis workshop will provide a review of the Python programming skills and techniques used in the upcoming Machine Learning and Natural Language processing workshops. Topics will include string manipulation, data types and conversion, pandas dataframes, and data formatting and preparation. Programming tools will include Jupyter Lab, Google Colab, and Generative AI coding assistants.
\n\nThis workshop is part of a broader series covering programming for the digital humanities, with an emphasis on document and text analysis. Although these workshops do not have any formal prerequisites, some background in Python and SQL would be helpful. These workshops will build on material from previous sessions, so it is recommended but not requred to take the workshops in sequence.

\n\nThis workshop will introduce topic modeling, a common natural language processing technique used to identify topics within a collection of documents . Participants will use Python, scikit-learn and Gensim to identify hidden patterns and topic clusters within a series of wide-ranging lectures. This workshop will also review methods to read and analyze transcripts from YouTube videos.
\n\nThis workshop is part of a broader series covering programming for the digital humanities, with an emphasis on document and text analysis. Although these workshops do not have any formal prerequisites, some background in Python and SQL would be helpful. These workshops will build on material from previous sessions, so it is recommended but not requred to take the workshops in sequence.

\n\nJoin Makers Lab staff for the second pop-up in a three-part series covering the basics of 3D design & modeling using the web-based application Tinkercad. This pop-up is for beginners, but all skills levels are welcome to attend.
\n\nAfter attending the 90-minute pop-up you will be able to:
\n\nMake sure to sign up for a Tinkercad account before the pop-up and use a three-button if you have one available. You don't even need to download Tinkercad, it is a free, web-based application that you can use anywhere, as long as you have an internet connection.
\n\nNeed to design 3D models with more complex geometries? Attend an upcoming Fusion 360 pop-up! Unsure if Tinkercad is the right software for your project? Contact the Makers Lab for suggestions.

\n\nDo you have a CT scan you would like to convert to a 3D print?
\n\nJoin Makers Lab staff to start creating 3D printable models from CT scans. Note: this pop-up will focus on converting and 3D printing models of bone. Learn how 3D printing is helping to improve medical education, research, and patient education.
\n\nWe encourage attendees to use their own laptops and download the 3D Slicer software prior to the pop-up, available for free for Mac and Windows. A three-button mouse is recommended, but not required. De-identified DICOM files (CT scan) will be provided at the start of the pop-up.

This month, the Bay Area Open Science Group will be joined by Elana Chan, a Civil & Environmental Engineering PhD Candidate in the Boehm Research Group studying how wastewater monitoring data may be interpreted for public health action. Elana was recently awarded the Stanford University Libraries Data Sharing Prize for her transparent research practices including publishing her data and code alongside her research papers with detailed documentation in the Stanford Digital Repository.

\n\nThis workshop will introduce document classification and sentiment analysis using Python and Scikit-Learn. Participants will learn how to build, train, and evaluate a custom supervised machine learning classifier to predict the topic and sentiment of text documents.
\n\nThis workshop is part of a broader series covering programming for the digital humanities, with an emphasis on document and text analysis. Although these workshops do not have any formal prerequisites, some background in Python and SQL would be helpful. These workshops will build on material from previous sessions, so it is recommended but not requred to take the workshops in sequence.

\n\nThis workshop provides and overview of cloud based, hosted APIs that provide generalized, hosted document classification, sentiment analysis, and topic modeling functionality. Participants will learn how to submit an API request to a pre-trained machine learning or generative AI model, read results for a text document, and evaluate the output.
\n\nThis workshop is part of a broader series covering programming for the digital humanities, with an emphasis on document and text analysis. Although these workshops do not have any formal prerequisites, some background in Python and SQL would be helpful. These workshops will build on material from previous sessions, so it is recommended but not requred to take the workshops in sequence.

\n\nDo you have a CT scan you would like to convert to a 3D print?
\n\nJoin Makers Lab staff to start creating 3D printable models from CT scans. Note: this pop-up will focus on converting and 3D printing models of bone. Learn how 3D printing is helping to improve medical education, research, and patient education.
\n\nWe encourage attendees to use their own laptops and download the 3D Slicer software prior to the pop-up, available for free for Mac and Windows. A three-button mouse is recommended, but not required. De-identified DICOM files (CT scan) will be provided at the start of the pop-up.
