This is a joint issue with NGEE-Tropics FATES created by @jkshuman

NGEET/fates#474

The goal is to build the SPITFIRE model in a standalone form in MAAT to allow offline sensitivity analysis.

Hi @jkshuman , just want to say that I'm sorry for such a long radio silence. The MAAT code base has been developing on multiple fronts - one being some major refactoring to make it much easier to build new model objects. I've been working on that branch and have mostly integrated all the various branches (have learnt that regular integration is the way forward!).

If you're still game, I think we could soon be ready to start building a SPITFIRE model object within MAAT. Apologies again for the delay.
