Real world references and Greeking

Burgerstation is a product of fiction and real-world references should be avoided as much as possible and replaced with something much more suitable. This is done for the following reasons:

  • Avoiding DMCA takedown requests.
  • Creative worldbuilding.
  • Encouraging humor.
  • Avoiding sensitive real-world issues in a fictitious game about putting spacemen sideways.
  • Discouraging low-rp behavior where people make reference to events that happened in 2022 in a universe that takes place in 2522.
  • Avoiding Godwin's law

While DMCA requests are incredibly unlikely, its best to not directly add content from another universe directly and instead add your own creative twist to it. This applies to all assets, including text, icons, and sounds; even if they are not trademarked or copyright. This is also known as "Greeking",

Greeking is the act of obscuring a recognizable trademark or copyright with alterations. Artists do this to avoid legal trouble as reasonable parodies are protected by copyright law.
