@wbazant Tested! As desired, the crosshair is not placed (even after zoom in) for z<14. If initial z>=14, the crosshair is placed.
However, in this case, the crosshair also remains for all z<14. (On the main branch, the crosshair disappears at z<=12). I suggest hiding the crosshair for z<14 (and showing it again upon zoom in?).
