Metrics
Through the metrics web page, FG Cloud Metrics will provide cloud usage information and here we would like to make some comments about what we are going to provide in the page. There are couple of interesting data such as overall usage, usage per project, usage pattern, etc.. The next list shows the sections that we would like to include in the page.
-
Summary
Single entry could explain many things at a glance. HTML table or javascript chart or images can be used to show summary effectively. Not too detail but not too abstract information we want to provide in
-
Grouped/Individual
Detailed information should be provided to go inside. In our case, for example, a single user can have multiple projects and a single project can have many users. Displaying who is using most resources that we have is an important part in metrics system.
-
Usage pattern
Analyzed data gives an idea about what we have been doing for the last certain amount of time. We want to answer many questions, for example, when do we request cloud instances in a day or in a week (time/date analysis), what type of flavors, and images are we frequently using, and which project needs getting more storage, memories and public IPs? These questions could be answered by analyzing cloud usage pattern.
-
Users/Groups/Institutions
Understanding who is using what type of resources is important to improve quality of service. It also helps us to manage our systems efficiently.
-
Location
Someone might be interested in geographical location of cloud resources.
-
Real-time data
Showing what is happening instantaneously would be interesting to react right away.
All these sections come with graphical representations e.g. javascript charts, png images.
