Scanner resolution

Scanner resolution defines how detailed the images coming from your scanner must be.

  • Higher resolutions mean
    • longer scans,
    • longer OCR,
    • more time to display,
    • more space used on disk,
    • but also better OCR.
  • Lower resolutions mean
    • shorter scans,
    • shorter OCR,
    • less time to display,
    • less space used on disk,
    • but also inferior OCR,
    • and possibly unreadable image (even by a human).

300 dpi is considered a good trade-off. You may want to reduce it to 200 dpi on slow computers.
